ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers, as many predicted, have acquired the rights to Anthony Davis’ services from the New Orleans Pelicans.
He didn’t come cheaply.
According to Woj, the Lakers are reportedly trading the following players:
Lonzo Ball
Brandon Ingram
Josh Hart
and four, count ‘em, four, first round picks.
The picks include the #4 selection in this years draft, meaning New Orleans’ young team of immense potential will exist effective immediately following next Thursday’s draft. The Pelicans are almost sure to draft Zion Williamson with the 1-1 pick, but the 1-4 should also provide a franchise cornerstone to go with erstwhile cornerstones Ball and Ingram.
One question sure to arise soon is, whither Jrue Holiday. Holiday is 29, and will probably be the next piece to move out of New Orleans, assuming the Pelicans find a Point Guard of the Future in Ball, Hart or the player picked 1-4.
The Lakers now have two bonafide superstars, and kept Jeannie Buss favorite Kyle Kuzma our of the deal (possibly by adding picks). They have about $24 million to build a functional, let’s say, 8 man rotation around Davis, James and Kuzma, as that’s pretty much all that’s left on the Lakers’ roster.
What do you think of this trade (which won’t go final until July 7th, evidently)?
