Coty’s flight into Vegas was delayed, so we missed last night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, but the Rockets will be looking to rebound after a 113-81 defeat to open up Summer League play.
The Rockets were led by Chris Clemons, who finished with 25 points and had no qualms shooting, knocking down 7-13 from beyond the arc. Isaiah Hartenstein also put in 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks to help lead Houston in defeat.
It’s always tough to gauge Summer League play, as it’s usually a bunch of guys who have rarely, if ever, played together. Offensive plays, defensive rotations, and communication are at a minimum. But Gary Clark, who earned time in the Association last year, really needs to step up. He finished just 2-8 from the field for 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block in 26 minutes, and he was a -35 on the night. Chris Chiozza was a -40 in 29 minutes, so the Rockets will be looking for more from him tonight as well.
Portland also comes into the the game 0-1 after a 93-73 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Pistons last night. Their high scorer was Anfernee Simmons, who finished with 15 points in 25 minutes.
The Rockets will be looking to improve their defensive play and have a few more key guys step up on offense.
And Coty has touched ground and is in Vegas, so TDS officially has boots on the ground and in person at the Thomas and Mack.
Go Rockets!
