The holiday season starts earlier than usual this year — if you’re an NBA fan.
Free agency officially begins at 5 p.m. central.
While it might not be one that contains a massive headliner — Anthony Davis is almost guaranteed to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers - there are some big difference-makers that can take a middle-of-the-pack team into a legit contender. Names like Montrezl Harrell, Joe Harris, Gordon Hayward, and Davis Bertans, among many others, are looking to make a splash on the market and get some cash in their pocket. That was bad.
At the top of Houston Rockets fans’ wishlist is a guy that everyone is rooting for: Christian Wood. The 6’10” undrafted power forward had a monster breakout season with the Detroit Pistons last year, averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds on 56.7% shooting from the field and 38.6% from three. They’ll also gladly settle for Jerami Grant, the super-athletic 6’8” power forward who can stretch the floor. A ton of fans felt like his former teammate Russell Westbrook could sway him into signing with Houston, but we know the relationship has changed since then.
Who do you think is someone completely flying under the radar? What free agent do you think will make the biggest leap next year? Who do you want to see the Rockets sign the most? Do you see Houston and another team pulling off a sign-and-trade for one of their stars who want out?
It feels like anything can happen this offseason. It is still 2020 after all.
