The NBA season may be on a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandamic, but P.J. Tucker is still working hard.
Late this week, the Rockets starting center announced that he and sneaker boutique The Better Generation will be raising money and awareness to help those dealing with the economic crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Better Generation — Tucker’s brainchild to be opened later this year — will be releasing a limited-edition clothing capsule to help support the community of its first retail location, Houston. According to the store’s website, the clothing line “was created to emphasize the importance of following precautionary measures” during the coronavirus outbreak, and all proceeds will go to the Houston Food Bank “to supply meals to community members in need.”
Despite the fact that the store isn’t set to open until October, and the website wasn’t even active as late as March 22, Executive Partner of TBG Brandon Davis said they “wanted to help in any way possible.” As bold and unprecedented of a move it is to have your first official release be related to a worldwide pandemic, the shop is already living up to its goals of “immers[ing] itself in the community” and creating a “unique shopping experience.”
As for the line itself, each article of clothing (shirts, shorts, and hats) brandishes an image of three people wearing medical masks and walking a measured distance from each other, to go along with the TBG logo and PJ Tucker’s name. The shirts carry a significant difference from the shirts and hats, as the back is lined with serious information about COVID-19 and the importance of social distancing.

“Being in the Houston community, I see the effect that the Coronavirus is having on everyone. We wanted to do a special project that not only impacts the community, but also spreads awareness to the seriousness of this virus. With everyone working together and supporting each other we can get past this.” – Tucker
The collection will be available here for pre-order from now until the end of Sunday. If you’re not a fan of the line but would like to support Tucker’s effort and the cause, you can also make a direct donation here.
