Less than 24 hours before the Rockets play in their first bubble preseason game, the team learned that they would be without backup point guard Austin Rivers.

Rivers left the bubble to tend to an urgent family matter, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

If a player leaves the bubble at any point, they must quarantine for four to 10 days prior to returning to activities with the team.

This means that Rivers’ status for next Friday’s opening game against the Mavericks is still in doubt. If he returns to the bubble sometime this weekend, he could be able to play against the Mavs.

With Rivers out, it’s likely that James Harden and Russell Westbrook will soak up some of his minutes, but don’t rule out Chris Clemons to get an opportunity for backup guard minutes.
