Tyronn Lue and Sam Cassell are current betting favorites for Rockets coaching job

The odds are in!

While the Houston Rockets have yet to kick their head coaching search into high gear, the bookmakers are already taking bets on who the favorite is to take over in H-town, and the top two right now are Tyronn Lue and Sam Cassell according to Sportsbetting.ag.

Lue takes the top spot right now with 3-1 odds, while Cassell is close behind with 4-1 odds. Both coaches are currently assistants with the L.A. Clippers, so the Houston front office will not be scheduling interviews with either until the Clips are finished in the playoffs, though the rumor mill has already started with Cassell and the Rockets having mutual interest.

Both Lue and Cassell are former players, with Cassell starting his career with the Rockets, so both guys are considered “players’ coaches”, though I would personally prefer Cassell over Lue.

Following Cassell, there is a three-way tie for third place, with Jeff Van Gundy (who is also already in the rumor mill), Nate McMillan, and Stan Van Gundy all coming in at 5-1.
