Rockets 2020 Player Recaps: Luc Mbah a Moute

Not much to recap.

Luc Mbah a Moute

Recap: Mbah a Moute played just three games for the Houston Rockets this season, so there’s not much to report here. Already familiar with the Houston system, the Rockets brought him back into the fold for wing depth when Thabo Sefolosha decided to opt out of the bubble due to concerns around COVID-19.

Mbah a Moute averaged 1.7 points points per game in just 25 total minutes of action for the Rockets, and he hasn’t played any meaningful court time since the 2018 season.

2021 Outlook: Mbah a Moute’s contract is up, as he signed a minimum deal just for the remainder of the season. He was a good fit at the time of the signing because of his familiarity with everything the Rockets do and the short window they had to incorporate any new pieces, but age (he’s now 34) and injury seem to have finally caught up to the defensive specialist. I can’t see him being as good a fit next season even as a veteran presence, and you’d like to see that spot go to someone younger that they can develop, especially with a new coach coming aboard. I’d be surprised if he’s on this roster next year.
