Rockets vs. Bulls game preview: new faces in new places

The Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls met twice in the preseason, with the teams splitting a pair of games in Chicago. As the Rockets travel to Chicago for the teams’ first regular season matchup, Houston is quite a different team.

James Harden and Christian Wood missed those first two games. Obviously Harden won’t be suiting up tonight, but Wood will. Additionally, the Rockets welcome in Victor Oladipo into the squad from the Harden trade. The Rockets hope to have some combination of DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Gordon, and Sterling Brown return from injury tonight in the Windy City. John Wall are Danuel House Jr. are still out.

The Rockets are 4-7 and have lost three of their last four. I think a lot of the upcoming season will be spent looking at the standings and rooting for the Oklahoma City Thunder to lose so that the pick swap with them isn’t debilitating.

Chicago is 4-9 and had dropped four straight games before trouncing the Mavericks on Sunday. They had lost those four games by a combined 11 points. Young teams struggle to finish games in the NBA and the Bulls are a young squad. Zach LaVine was a monster in the losses, dropping 30 points on 50% shooting from the field in all four games. Then in the game they won over the Mavs, he shot 1-8 and finished with 10 points. So when he plays well, they lose. And when he plays poorly, they win. Nothing makes sense.

The Bulls also have Thaddeus Young, whom I am convinced will never retire.

Tip-off is at 7pm CT on AT&T SportsNet Southwest
