Houston Rockets v Chicago Bulls
What if I told you the Rockets signed a modern all-star center for relative chump change?

Today marks a time of great change. The NBA will now begin enforcing its “No Hugs” rule. This rules out the expected parade of embraces for referee crew chief Josh Tiven’s continuing existence as Not Scott Foster.

The Rockets will once again not really be the team of recent hopes and expectations as John Wall, Sterling Brown, Danuel House, Dante Exum, and Brodric Thomas continue to be out.

The Rockets will run Victor Oladipo and Whoever Got The Rebound at PG.

It’s almost impossible to know what the Rockets will look like 20 games from now, as their roster has basically never played a single game intact this season. This is a widespread issue across the NBA, but the Rockets, with their uncertainty, injuries, trades and COVID issues have been particularly hard-hit.

All that to say, patience. This isn’t a Rockets team that particularly needs to be judged on a minute by minute basis. The margins for their success and failure aren’t so fine as that.

Despite all the drama, the Rockets have now played 17% of their season, and effectively none with their full roster. We’re still 8 games from the (roughly) quarter post of 20 games I urge for patient evaluation. It maybe should be reset to 25.

Anyhow, post your thoughts here, the recap may be up later than usual tonight.
