SB Nation Reacts: WNBA Finals & NBA Opening Week

One season starts as another ends.

This week’s SB Nation Reacts poll deals with the beginning of the NBA season and the end of the WNBA season with Opening Week and the WNBA Finals coinciding this week.

First, we asked our national voters who they felt would win the Finals between the Phoenix Mercury and Chicago Sky.

It’s a tight race between the two underdogs. The series is tied 1-1, with Game 3 taking place in Chicago tonight at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

Game 4 tips off Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. CT on ABC, and if the teams reach Game 5, the game will take place at 9 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

It appears that the voters are expecting Diana Taurasi to claim her fourth ring, but I’m going to disagree with this one. The Sky are playing extremely well and they have the next two games in their building, giving them a slight edge in my eyes.

Then, we switch over to the NBA to figure out how fans feel about their teams heading into the season.

47 percent of fans feel better, as they should. Optimism is king in the preseason because everyone starts off in first place. If you pose this question a month from now though, I think you’re going to see different results.

As it pertains to the Houston Rockets, 60 percent of fans feel the same now than they did during the offseason.

I’m siding with that 60 percent. I’m extremely excited going into the season, but my expectations for the team are the same as it was during the entire offseason. For the first time in what feels like forever, the Rockets are coming into the season without a playoff guarantee. This means that we can enjoy the team for the players and talent and root them on without worrying if they are staying afloat and meeting everyone else’s expectations.

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget to sign up for Reacts HERE if you want to start voting!
