Rockets over/under on season wins stands at 26.5

Yesterday, Conrad talked a little about what kind of expectations we should have for the Houston Rockets this season. They’ll be incorporating four new draft picks into a lineup that already includes a lot of young guys, and the veterans the team features may not even make the entire season on the squad.

With all that in mind, the betting sites have released their over/under on the Rockets’ projected win total for the season, and they seem to all be in agreement that Houston’s over/under stands at 26.5.

Houston also has +1800/-5000 odds on making the playoffs, which translates to a 98-percent chance of sitting at home this postseason, according to SportsBetting.ag.

I personally think that with the new play-in format, that the odds are little higher than that for the Rockets to make the postseason, so there’s a chance that’s a lucrative play for any of you betters out there. Bet $100, and if Houston makes the playoffs, that’s an $1800 payout. But I do agree they’re still a longshot overall, just maybe not quite as high as the odds make it seem.

The over/under is an interesting play as well. I personally think Houston is going to end up somewhere around 30-52 this season. I realize that it could be beneficial from a 2022 NBA Draft perspective to tank another season, but with so many young guys on the roster, I think it’s more important to focus on winning as much as possible. Houston GM Rafael Stone can always use some of his stockpiled picks to move up, much like he did for Alperen Sengun in this year’s draft. Work on building winning habits, that should be top priority.

Don’t forget that Houston was actually playing pretty well this past season at one point, until the bottom fell out with injuries. They might not be as bad as some expect this season.
