Kevin Porter Jr. isn’t happy with early NBA 2K ratings

Do you think a 77 is fair?

It’s time for that infamous yearly NBA tradition: players disagreeing with with their NBA 2K rating.

Among those players is the Houston Rockets’ third-year man Kevin Porter Jr.

KPJ, after a 16-point and 6-assist sophomore stint — a great improvement from his 10-point, 2-assist rookie season — expected himself to be in the 80s. Turns out, he kind of wasn’t close.

Porter Jr. may still have a ton to prove after getting those James Harden comparisons, but the one thing he doesn’t have to prove is that he’s a bona fide starter on an NBA team. Let us not forget that he was also the youngest player in NBA history to record 50 points and 10 assists in a game — against the future 2021 champions, no less.

To make this pill a little more difficult to swallow, there are actually rookies (yes, players who haven’t played a single NBA minutes) ranked higher than Porter Jr. One of those rookies includes his own teammate, Jalen Green, who comes in at a 79.

All-in-all, 2K ratings mean very little and typically aren’t accurate, but maybe this will be some good motivation for KPJ coming into next season.
