All-time Rockets stat sheet stocking stuffers

Ho ho ho, it don’t get better than this.

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Houston Rockets Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The holidays are amongst us and I find that it never hurts to reminisce on the good times during this time of year. A lover of legendary moments, my gift to you all this year is a remix to some of the finest stat lines and performances from Houston Rockets past.

In the cadence of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”

‘Twas a few nights before April and all through The Summit,

Hakeem Olajuwon wrecked havoc and forced the Milwaukee Bucks to plummet.

With 18 points here and 16 boards there,

It’s a wonder The Dream still had 10 assists and 11 blocks to spare!

For this was a quadruple-double, only the third of it’s kind,

It surely cemented the Rockets center as one of the best players of all-time.

Sidenote: What’s even more incredible is that this was almost the SECOND quadruple-double by Olajuwon within March 1990. An assist from March 3 was retroactively rescinded and it left him with what is still an otherworldly 29 points - 18 rebounds - 11 blocks - 9 assists and oh, just a casual 5 steals for good measure.

In the cadence of “Jingle Bells”

Dicing up the (Orlando) Magic,

On a one-man headed team,

James Harden set the court ablaze with the first 60 point triple-double in history.

O’er the franchise-record he went,

Plus 10 rebounds and 11 assists,

Only Luka Doncic can say he’s accomplished this feat in the time that has passed since.

Toyota Center shined so bright,

Harden ascended to new heights,

What fun it was to praise The Beard on another MVP-type of night!

Sidenote: This was one of four 50-plus point games in Harden’s lone MVP season. He followed it up with NINE the next season!

In the cadence of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”

It’s beginning to look a lot like a comeback,

Every time he scores.

Take a look at the scoreboard, 35 seconds and almost down by 10,

But there goes Tracy McGrady, he scored again!

13 points with little time to go,

It’s beginning to look a lot like comeback,

Even one of his three-pointers went for four.

But the prettiest sight to see will always be Jeff Van Gundy,

Who we shall always adore.

Sidenote: In classic JVG fashion, he found a way to find some gripes from this game. Apparently, even T-Mac’s incredible 13 points in 33 seconds performance couldn’t stop the coach from launching into a postgame tirade.
