Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans game preview

The Rockets look to build off their win Friday night against another Southwest Division foe

NBA: New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans went into Cleveland and beat the same Cavaliers squad that the Houston Rockets couldn’t beat earlier this week. So by transitive property, the Pels should cruise to a victory tonight.

Of course, that’s not how sports works. The transitive property doesn’t apply. That Cavs game was the second night of a road back-to-back for Houston. So is tonight, though. The Cavs didn’t have Donovan Mitchell for the Pelicans game, and he carried Cleveland against Houston. Sam Merrill had the night of his life against Houston, and went 0-4 against New Orleans. Is that because of New Orleans’s great defense? Or because Houston was tired?

See? This is a dumb exercise.

Anyway, Houston will try to build off their win over a toothless Dallas Mavericks squad before getting a couple of well-earned days off.

Merry Christmas, and happy holidays everyone!
