Houston Rockets vs. Denver Nuggets game preview

The Houston Rockets are once again looking for their first road win of the season

NBA: Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Can the Houston Rockets, against all odds, win their first road game against the defending NBA champions? At altitude? With the Denver Nuggets coming off a disappointing loss in which Nikola Jokic missed 23 shots? So he’ll be hungry to have a great game?

Yeah, it doesn’t seem likely that road win #1 will happen Friday night.

The really annoying thing about this game is that Houston had already won the season series against the Nuggets. Houston won both of their home games against the champs, then lost the final contest in Denver. That was supposed to be the end of it, but the NBA added an extra game for every team that didn’t make the In Season Tournament playoffs, and Houston drew a road game against Denver.

Obviously, the tiebreaker was never going to matter. The Nuggets will cruise to a better record than the Rockets this season. However, it would have been cool to be able to hold a season series win over the defending NBA champions. That would be a nice feather in the cap of the resurgent Rockets.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the Rockets shock the NBA world and win tonight for their first road game. I doubt it though.
